What it is

Who needs transfer pricing

Any company that buys from, sells to, lends to or charges fees to a related company has transfer pricing to think about. The price set between them affects where profit is taxed.

It matters most for branches and subsidiaries of foreign groups, and for Qatari groups with companies in more than one country. Tax authorities expect these prices to be explained and supported.

Questions

Common questions about transfer pricing

Answers about the service, the work involved and what to prepare. Open a question to read more.

What is transfer pricing?

Transfer pricing is how prices are set for deals between companies in the same group, such as sales of goods, services, management fees, royalties and loans. Because these prices decide how much profit each company reports, tax authorities expect them to match what independent companies would agree. Documentation shows how your prices were set.

What is the difference between a local file and a master file?

The master file gives an overview of the whole group: its business, structure, main intangibles, financing and overall transfer pricing approach. The local file focuses on one company, here your Qatar company, and explains each of its related-party deals and how their prices were set and tested. The two are read together.

What is transfer pricing benchmarking?

Benchmarking compares the prices or margins in your related-party deals with those earned by independent companies doing similar work. It uses data on comparable companies or transactions to set a range. If your prices fall inside it, that supports them. If not, it shows what may need to change.

What is a country-by-country report notification?

It identifies the group entity responsible for filing a multinational group’s country-by-country report. Qatar’s obligations depend on the group’s size, the reporting year and whether the parent entity is resident in Qatar. A Qatar subsidiary of a foreign-parented group should not assume it must file a local notification. We check the applicable GTA rules before agreeing any preparation work.

Does transfer pricing apply to small groups?

The principle applies to any deal between related companies, whatever the size of the group. What changes with size is how much documentation is expected. A small group may need only a clear policy and records, while a larger one needs full files. We confirm what applies to your group before we quote.
