Clinics and healthcare providers

What clinics and healthcare providers usually deal with

Healthcare providers earn from patients and insurers, and run costly staff and equipment. These are the issues that come up most in the sector.

  • Insurance claims

Claims are paid late, partly or not at all, so income and receivables are hard to judge.

  • Several income sources

Cash patients, insurers, corporate contracts and packages each need their own records.

  • Doctors’ pay and shares

Salaries, incentives and revenue shares with doctors need clear agreements and calculations.

  • Medical equipment

Expensive equipment needs a register, depreciation and a record of leases and financing.

  • Pharmacy and consumables

Medicines and supplies expire and move fast, so stock needs regular counts and checks.

  • Growth and new branches

Opening a new clinic or service needs a budget, a forecast and often a lender’s review.

Insurance income

Why insurance income needs care

When a patient is treated, the clinic bills the insurer, but the amount finally paid can be lower after rejections and adjustments. If the books record the full bill, income looks higher than the cash that arrives.

We help you match claims to payments and track rejections, so the income in the accounts reflects what is likely to be received. That gives a truer profit figure and a cleaner audit.

Questions

Questions clinics and healthcare providers ask us

Short answers. Open a question to read the answer.

Does a clinic in Qatar need an audit?

Often, yes. The General Tax Authority’s rules require audited accounts with the tax return above set limits on capital and income, and partners and banks often ask for them too. For a clinic, the audit looks closely at insurance receivables, rejected claims and payments to doctors, so clean monthly records for these make it quicker. Tell us about your practice and we confirm what applies.

How should rejected insurance claims be recorded?

Income should reflect the amount the clinic expects to receive, not only the amount billed. Where claims are often rejected or reduced, the expected shortfall is estimated and the receivable adjusted. We look at your claim history by insurer and help you set a basis you can apply each month.

Can you calculate doctors’ revenue shares?

Yes. Where doctors are paid a share of the income they generate, we set up the calculation from your billing data in line with their agreements, and keep the records that support each payment. Clear calculations avoid disputes and make the audit simpler.

How should prepaid treatment packages be recorded?

As income received in advance, not as sales on the day the patient pays. Under IFRS 15, revenue is recognised as the sessions or treatments are delivered, so sessions not yet used at the year end stay in the accounts as a liability. Your billing system needs to track the sessions each patient has used. We help set this up and agree how expired packages are treated.

Can you help us plan a new branch?

Yes. We prepare budgets, forecasts and feasibility studies for new clinics and services, covering fit-out, equipment, staff, expected patient numbers and cash flow. Tell us about the plan and who will read it, and we agree the scope and the fee in writing.
