What it is

Who uses internal audit

Listed companies are expected to have an internal audit function that reports to the board’s audit committee. Banks and other regulated firms should check their own regulator’s rules.

For most other companies, internal audit is a board decision. It suits businesses that have grown faster than their controls, run several sites, or want an independent view without hiring a full-time team.

Our service

What we do

Internal audit runs through the year. The work comes in six parts, and you choose how much we take on.

  • Risk assessment and plan

We rank your main risks and agree an internal audit plan with you.

  • Process and control testing

We test key processes such as purchasing, payroll, cash and inventory.

  • Reports with agreed actions

Each review ends in a report with rated findings and the fixes agreed with management.

  • Audit committee reporting

A summary of findings and open actions for the audit committee or board.

  • Outsourced or co-sourced

We act as your internal audit team, or work alongside your own staff.

  • Follow-up

We check that agreed actions are done and report what is still open.

We agree the reporting line and check independence before accepting the work. We do not provide outsourced internal audit to companies whose financial statements we audit.

We walk through each process, test the controls and discuss issues as we find them.

  3. 3

    Findings and agreed actions

You get a report with rated findings, and management agrees an owner and date for each fix.

Questions

Common questions about internal audit

Answers about the service, the work involved and what to prepare. Open a question to read more.

What does internal audit do in a company?

Internal audit checks whether the company’s processes and controls work as intended and whether its main risks are managed. It reviews areas such as purchasing, payroll, cash and compliance during the year, reports findings to management and the audit committee, and follows up the fixes agreed. It works for the company, not for outside readers.

Is internal audit mandatory in Qatar?

Listed companies are subject to the QFMA Governance Code’s internal audit requirements. Banks and other regulated businesses must also check their own regulator’s rules. For other businesses, the need depends on their legal and contractual obligations and the board’s assessment of risk. Tell us how your company is regulated before choosing an outsourced or co-sourced arrangement.

What is co-sourced internal audit?

Co-sourcing means an outside firm works alongside your own internal auditors. Your team keeps ownership of the function, and the firm adds people for busy periods or skills you do not have in house, such as a specific process or industry. It sits between a fully outsourced function and a fully in-house team.

How often should internal audit be done?

It depends on your risks and the size of the business. The internal audit plan sets the timing, with the highest risks reviewed first and more often. Listed companies in Qatar must have their internal audit director report to the audit committee at least every quarter under the QFMA Governance Code. We agree the frequency with you.

Who should the internal audit report go to?

The internal audit report should go to the audit committee of the board, or to the board if there is no committee, with a copy to the managers who must act on it. The QFMA Governance Code for listed companies requires internal audit to report directly to the audit committee, so it stays independent of senior management.
