Audit and assurance

Review of financial statements in Qatar

Our financial statement review in Qatar follows ISRE 2400. It is based mainly on enquiry and analysis, so it is lighter and costs less than an audit, and ends in a review report giving limited assurance. It suits owners and lenders who do not need an audit. Ask for a proposal and tell us who will read the report.

What it is

Who a review suits

A review suits companies whose owners, partners or lenders want an independent look at the financial statements but do not need a full audit.

It does not replace an audit that the law or a regulator requires. Limited liability and joint stock companies must still appoint an auditor each year, so check first what the reader of the report will accept.

Our service

What we do

A review rests on questions and analysis rather than detailed testing. The work comes in six parts.

  • Agreeing the purpose

We confirm who will read the report, the period and the accounting framework.

  • Enquiry with management

We ask how the figures were prepared and question anything unusual.

  • Analytical procedures

We compare balances and ratios with earlier periods and with what we expect.

  • Review report

A report under ISRE 2400 giving limited assurance on the financial statements.

  • Interim reviews

Half-year or quarterly reviews, with the applicable standard confirmed before the engagement.

  • Points for correction

Errors or gaps we notice are raised with you before the report is issued.

A review gives limited assurance, not an audit opinion. Where the law, a regulator or a lender requires an audit, a review will not meet that need.

Questions

Common questions about review of financial statements

Answers about the service, the work involved and what to prepare. Open a question to read more.

What is ISRE 2400?

ISRE 2400 (Revised) is the international standard for reviewing historical financial statements, issued by the IAASB. It applies when the practitioner is not the company’s auditor. The work is mainly enquiry and analysis, and the review report gives limited assurance, which is lighter than the opinion given in a full audit.

What does limited assurance mean?

A review provides less assurance than an audit. The practitioner mainly uses enquiries and analytical procedures, with additional work if a possible material misstatement is identified. An unmodified conclusion states that nothing has come to the practitioner’s attention indicating that the statements are not prepared, in all material respects, under the applicable reporting framework. It is not an audit opinion.

Can a review replace a statutory audit?

No. Under the Commercial Companies Law, limited liability companies and joint stock companies must appoint an auditor every year, and a review does not meet that duty. A review fits where no audit is required, such as a report for owners, partners or a lender who has agreed to accept one.

Will my bank accept a review instead of an audit?

Only your bank can say. Check the loan agreement or ask your relationship manager which report they need before you commit. If they want an audit, a review will not do. If they accept a review, it usually takes less work and costs less. We can wait until you have their answer.

Can our own auditor carry out the review?

ISRE 2400 is written for a practitioner who is not the company’s auditor. If your auditor reviews interim figures for you, a different standard applies to that work. Tell us who audits your accounts and what the review is for, and we confirm which standard fits and whether we can take it on.
